Christmas. Today is 12/25/09 in Jerusalem

I sleep in.

I edit photos from last night in Bethlehem for 5 hours.

Email is back on and so I catch up on a few emails.

So glad to hear some Christmas wishes from friends. It makes my day. The only Christmas spirit I felt here.

Come 4 pm I leave to fins a mass somewhere  there is suppose to be one by New Gate.

Walking is marvelous and brisk with out a backpack! I am enjoying the walk. The sun is setting and it is a beautiful neon sky of pink clouds on powder blue luminescence.

I get there to St. Savior’s Parish and I am told it is in Arabic.

After walking around the the closed Christian Information Center past Jaffa Gate, and over to Notre Dame…I buy a razor and some toothpaste. I return to St. Savior’s for the Arabic Mass.I figure it will be good – some song – some “Christmas music”.

There is none of that. There are nine people there in a goos sized Romanesque style basilica. An old priest speaks for a good 30 minutes and I decide to leave before eucharist.

Maybe there is something at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

There isn’t.

I see that the door is open at Church of the Redeemer, the Lutheran Church. There is a Bach Christmas Oratorio to be performed at 6pm by the Austrian Operatic company. I stay for 20 minutes of that and then scoot out of there for dinner at the Sisters’.

Shave (clean up neck and cheeks – keep the beard). Christmas dinner is Duck.

Spend my night updating the Log. It is finished. I am¬† half way into my time here. In some ways it feels for ever, and in others, it feels like I haven’t started yet.

Pack for tomorrow’s shoot at St. James.

Go to bed.
