On My Own, Last Day C3 02/26/11, Nashville, TN

I am up and out early though I feel like sleeping in. Brian attends the Radio show here at the Opery while I attend last day of C3 conference.

Drive to conference in the rental car.

Andy Crouch starts off the show – a worship – his powerful voice and song choice crack me emotionally – the rest of the day is going to be difficult. Videos of Crouch: http://www.google.com/search?q=Andy+Crouch&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=tuZ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivnslo&source=univ&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=c99pTYmqJZSSgQeS5ojPCg&ved=0CGEQqwQ

Reverend Dr.Paul Weston http://www.ridley.cam.ac.uk/people/pweston.html opens the first plenary. “Missional Encounters with Culture: Reflections from the Other Side of the Pond” He is an Anglican Priest from Cambridge and has insightful and alarming stats on Christianity in England.

I go to Paul’s Workshop on insights from Leslie Newbigin. Great stuff – all of which will come out in my writing in the future at the FBA www.foundationforthebiblicalarts.org. Weston challenges us to “live in” the Gospel–we need an indwelling of the story.

Andy closes the conference in the final plenary. He is the author of Culture Making: http://www.culture-making.com/ and speaks about humans being “Restored Images” of God.

He mentions, “Everyone plays god; which god are you playing? When we image the true God, creation flourishes”. wselfportraitxg5z6563
“Restored Image” – a perfect close to the conference – (I would write in more thoughtful detail, however I am exhausted and feel a cold coming on – instead I refer any readers whom are interested to visit: http://www.facebook.com/C3ConferenceNashville ).

wcyclopsxg5z6570 Say goodbyes.

I am told I have had an influence by a few people and am surprised – I should feel good however, I am really sad.

So sad I have to sit quietly to absorb it all.

I can’t take it and resort to taking photos as I walk… getting out of a dangerous space that some would say I should “sit in”.

Instead I offer two self portraits – one is the house that can serve as my metaphor.

The other, the shadow of self I call “Cyclops”

wyourmercyismyhopexg5z6586 Take photos of the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, this one is my favorite called: ” Your Mercy is my hope”.

Eat at a Indian Lunch Buffet (and remember Natraj in Laguna Beach and my friends back home).

Back at the hotel after getting on a couple wrong freeways. Feeling really tired. Brian has plans with Steve (from Calvary Albuquerque also attending the Radio Conference) to go to the Saturday night broadcast at the Grand Ol’ Opery http://www.opry.com/

I almost opt to stay on the bed and nap but at the last minute decide to go.

Doobie Brothers.

Vince Gil and Keb Mo

And Alison Kraus

I am blown away by Alison Kraus who sings two hymnals that have me choking back tears…

She has a new fan.

Now I edit photos and post the log after downing two packs of vitamins and two slices of Pizza. Thinking of  things in “two”, Kraus only did two songs but they alone were worth the entry price of $30.

Someone is playing the piano here in the lobby.

I add a couple photos to earlier posts.

I am tired.

But God is so Good.
